Goals are about living for the future – Purpose is living in the now.
Basing your happiness on goals will at best give you temporarily satisfaction, and then leave you struggling, dissatisfied, and searching for more.
If you only focus on reaching a goal, you miss enjoying your current life, believing that there will be a fulfilling reward, when the goal is achieved.
Basing your happiness on your Purpose leaves you satisfied with whichever way things are.
If your focus is to Live On Purpose, then every adventure becomes a joyous and purposeful experience.
If your travels are based on Living On Purpose you will feel satisfied, whether you reach your goals or not.
It is like the metaphor of driving down the highway of your life. If you hope to get happy when you arrive at your destination, your journey will be “Are we there yet?” waiting for happiness to appear. At best you will have a short spur of happiness when you arrive at a goal, but then your lack of happiness that made you go for your goal in the first place shows up again. Then you look for another destination to get to. Trying to make goals the source of enjoying your life will always leave you looking for something more.
Whereas, if you are savoring and enjoying your life as a continuous interesting adventure, then every day will be fulfilling, whether you are on your way to your goal or have already reached it.
